I have been listening to a lot of Old Crow Medicine Show, Dylan, Warren Zevon, Gillian Welch and Appalachian folk and have become immersed in the summertime quality of a banjo. James River Blues does something to my soul.
And then today, I turned on Dressy Bessy and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
And while the fiddle-y tunes of OCMS are nothing at all like the twee-pop or girl punk of DB and SatB, there is something there in all of it that seems to get to me lately, and I can’t put a finger on it. It might be the rawness of it all. Raw in different directions, but raw and human nonetheless.
